The most significant sources of peridot gemstones in the world are found in the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation near Globe, Arizona, where Native Americans mine peridot. Large sizes of peridot gemstones are mined in Myanmar (Burma) and it is also found in China. Peridot is sometimes the result of volcanic action. Tiny peridot crystals are sometimes found from the black sands of Hawaii. Peridot jewelry is most preferred when it is a lively lime green color. Pirates favored peridot necklaces and when a peridot necklace was set in gold, it was said to protect the wearer from the dangers of the night. Peridot gemstones had medicinal uses, too. Peridot was formed into a chalice from which people drank medicines, and it was said that it intensified the effects of the drug.
